As of January 11, 2024, Canada will apply the Apostille to documents to be used before Romanian authorities, following the signing of the Hague Convention regarding the abolition of requirements for super legalization of foreign documents.
Thus, for documents issued by Canadian authorities, the Apostille is affixed directly on the original document, such as civil status certificates – birth, marriage and death certificates, change of name court order.
For additional information about the apostille in Canada, please visit the official link of Global Affairs Canada: https://www.international.gc.ca/gac-amc/about-a_propos/services/authentication-authentification/apostille-convention.aspx?lang=eng
Important note:
The apostille of a Canadian civil status certificate is not equivalent to automatic recognition in Romania. It is necessary to transcribe these documents with the Romanian authorities in order to obtain the corresponding Romanian documents (birth, marriage or death certificates).
